I don’t do piggy banks

first_img continue reading » When you think of an ad for a financial institution, what immediately comes to mind? There is the woman who dangles keys outside the car window. That’s perfectly natural… sigh… when we get a new car. Then there’s the tiny house – that perfectly square illustration we’ve come to know since we were 3 years old. And then there’s the piggy bank, that clay or plastic oinker we drop coins in that is a natural tie-in to savings.Yeah, I avoid those clichés like the plague. They rarely are persuasive. For sure they are icons, but they don’t speak with intention, purpose or persuasion. And with these symbols so prevalent in our industry, they no longer grab attention (if they ever really did). When we advertise our credit union or community bank, it shouldn’t be a simple exchange of information. We’re in the business of changing lives. You need a marketing message that resonates. Here are three real examples:‘This is Jacked Up’This was a headline for an auto campaign with a photo of a large pickup truck. It even had lightning bolts along the side of the vehicle. For those members who suffer through “truck envy,” we have every Alpha male’s dream pictured here. The headline, “This is Jacked Up,” applies to not only the vehicle, but the offer to beat the consumer’s current auto rate or receive $100 if the credit union can’t. Shock for locals as Inishowen to Letterkenny bus service is scrapped

first_imgBus service users on the Northwest Busways Inishowen-Letterkenny route were shocked yesterday to discover that the service will be stopped in just two week’s time. The scrapping of the Moville-Letterkenny bus has come as a blow to the local communities, who rely on the service for school, work, appointments and everyday transport.A sign placed on the bus yesterday announced that the service will end on Friday 11th October 2019. It is understood that the service was deemed not financially viable. The plans are set to leave many people in limbo without their regular transport. Senator Padraig MacLochlainn has acted on the planned changes by making urgent representations to the National Transport Authority on the matter. He said that the NTA have confirmed that a new commercial operator will take up the licence of this route. The operator cover some of the routes which will be cut from 11th October. The NTA is also working with the Local Link service to try and cover the rest, Senator MacLochlainn confirmed. He said: “I am making it clear that all communities in Inishowen from Malin and Moville right through the peninsula; the students, workers and family members visiting loved ones in Letterkenny Hospital need this public service maintained.“The people of Inishowen have a right to public transport like everyone else!” The final Northwest Busways Letterkenny to Inishowen service will be at 5.40pm on Friday 11th October.Shock for locals as Inishowen to Letterkenny bus service is scrapped was last modified: October 14th, 2019 by Rachel McLaughlinShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Inishowennorthwest buswayslast_img read more

first_imgALAMEDA — Andre James had a couple hours to spare on the Oakland Raiders’ flight to New York to play the Jets.So James started his ritual. He opened up his phone, scrolled back, and tapped into a familiar text conversation he will save and read forever. These are texts from his father, Marcus James, who passed away from Stage 4 testicular cancer in October of 2018.“He battled a long time, more than the doctors said he was going to make it,” James said. “He made a year longer than what they …last_img

Tourism Ministry Seeks ‘Creative City’ Designation for Kingston

first_imgThe Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment is seeking to have Kingston designated a ‘Creative City’ by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).State Minister in the Ministry, Hon. Damion Crawford, made the announcement on Tuesday, July 2, during his contribution to the 2013/2014 Sectoral debate in the House of Representatives. He said the Ministry is examining the criteria for application to UNESCO to achieve the designation.“Indeed, I find the concept of Kingston being designated a ‘Creative City’, in which cultural activities are integral to the city’s economic and social functioning, to be both fascinating and eminently achievable,” Mr. Crawford said.“UNESCO designated ‘Creative Cities’ point to their people as the critical resource. In addition, we can also boast a spectacular natural setting, perfect location and market access. It is well recognised that positioning Kingston to maximize its cultural appeal will have the advantage, not just of wealth creation but an easing of social tensions in inner city communities, and a strengthening of efforts to redevelop neglected areas,” he stated.Mr. Crawford noted that the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) has long sought to market Kingston as the “cultural capital” based on a tradition of world-class musical output; the universal appeal of Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff and many others, as well as the relative concentration of night life, museums, attractions, galleries and theatres. The JTB currently endorses and supports some 15 events throughout the island with the majority being activities in Kingston. In addition, the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) supports the Dennis Brown Concert and Trench Town Festival as part of the Downtown Kingston Restoration effort.Contact: Latonya Lintonlast_img read more

Scandlines Carried 3 Mn Passengers during Summer

first_imgzoom Danish-German shipping company Scandlines revealed that its ferries transported almost one million vehicles and more than three million passengers during the summer months. As explained, the good performance was due to a steady ferry service and an increasing growth in the number of transported vehicles.“There were no cancellations due to technical issues on the company’s two ferry routes. Only very few departures were delayed due to force majeure, and the majority of these were less than five minutes,” Scandlines said.Compared to last year’s high season, Scandlines realized more crossings on both the operated routes this summer. On the route Puttgarden-Rødby, Scandlines had more than 9,000 departures during the summer months. With more than 34,000 crossings per year, over four departures per hour and a non-stop ferry service 24/7 on 365 days each year, the so-called Beeline is said to be the fastest and safest traffic route from the European continent to Scandinavia.During the summer, Scandlines’ two new hybrid ferries, M/V Berlin and M/V Copenhagen, contributed to a reduction of emissions in the Baltic Sea, according to the company. The new ferries, which are the largest hybrid ferries in the world, were put into service on the route Rostock-Gedser in 2016. Due to their hybrid propulsion system, the fuel consumption can be reduced by 2/3 per trip per car, compared to conventional ferries. Offering space for 1,300 passengers, 460 cars or 96 lorries, the two ferries operate the route more than 20 times per day.Looking back on three good summer months, Scandlines said it has “an optimistic view on the future.”last_img read more
