DONEGAL MAN PROMISES TO FLY HOME FROM ENGLAND TO DO COMMUNITY SERVICE

first_imgA DONEGAL man facing jail for failing to do community service has vowed to fly home from his job in England to avoid going to prison.Patrick M Doherty, who is 24 with an address at Cherry Orchard Road, East Croydon, London, had 120 hours of community service outstanding relating to driving charges in 2011.But he had left Ireland and now worked as a crane mechanic in England. Judge Paul Kelly however said this wasn’t an excuse.“Community Service is not an added extra here, it was substituted instead of a prison sentence – you do it or you do the time,” said the judge.Defence solicitor Patsy Gallagher said Doherty had left Donegal to find work.He had not intended to ignore the courts, but merely find gainful employment. He said Doherty was keen to complete the community service order and had arranged to fly home on Thursdays for the next two months to complete it.“He has spoken to his employer and he has booked the flights at considerable expense,” said the solicitor. The case was adjourned until November to allow Doherty to complete the service.DONEGAL MAN PROMISES TO FLY HOME FROM ENGLAND TO DO COMMUNITY SERVICE was last modified: September 8th, 2015 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:community service orderCroydondonegalEnglandPatrick Dohertylast_img read more
