Picture Special as Mayor gets his cake and eats it at Pat’s Charity Tea Day

first_imgMAYOR Jimmy Kavanagh made Pat McCarry honorary First Citizen today to celebrate her latest charity success.Creeslough woman Pat opened the doors to her home for her annual Tea Day which raises money for The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland; and over the past 24 years Pat has raised more than €32,000 for the Donegal Branch.Said Mayor Kavanagh: “Pat is a remarkable woman whose Tea Days are now famous. I even thought it was only right she would wear the Mayoral chain today to recognise her incredible achievements over so many years.” Alasdair McKinney, Voluntary Chair of the Donegal Branch of The Alzheimer’s Society was among dozens of people who popped in for a cuppa – and scrumptious scones and cakes – at Pat’s home today.“Pat is one of our most ardent supporters and has always shown great empathy for sufferers of dementia,” said Alasdair.“It is thanks to people like Pat that we able to help 200 families in Donegal every year and provide 57,000 hours of service.”Day centres in Cloghan, Gaoth Dobhair and Glenties; social clubs in Movie, Fanad, Letterkenny and Ballyshannon – and monthly cafes in Carrick and at the Silver Tassie are part of the services provided.
